The Beaverhead River is predicted to have a banner season for us. Clark Canyon Reservoir is 90% full for this date in time and when we have runoff in the spring it should fill to capacity. We will have excellent flows this season on the Beaverhead. Our winter flows on the Beaverhead have been around 200cfs which is fantastic for the trout. The winters we have had in the past when flows remain above 100cfs has allowed the fish to grow and stay healthy, also it has helped the fish habitat and bug life. Our spring fishing packages are available again. We are excited to have our own lodging this spring for our clients. Click here for more information.

Fishing has been pretty good on the Beaverhead lately. We have been fishing from High Bridge down to Barrett's. You will find yellow sallies below High Bridge. The hopper fishing has been pretty good from Henneberry down stream. If you stick with the hopper you will be rewarded with a tremendous brown trout. You will find moss below the dam until you get to High Bridge. The water below High Bridge is clear and the moss is not putting a damper on your fishing. The Flow out of Clark Canyon Reservoir was 651cfs this morning.

The flows are up out of Clark Canyon Reservoir. Today the outflow is 600cfs. They will be matching the inflow with the outflow starting tomorrow. Clark Canyon Reservoir is 100% full, which is great news for spring fishing and summer fishing on the Beaverhead River. Fishing has been good below Pipe Organ bridge. With the increased flow the worm fishing has been the ticket. With the burst of cold water to the system hatches have been bleak. Streamers and nymphing san juan worms has been the best source of protein for the fish. Remember if you are going to fish the Beaverhead that you must remain from Pipe Organ Bridge downstream until the 3rd Saturday of May. The upper river is closed to protect the rainbows while they spawn.

Spring Special guided fishing details are here. Packages starting at $595 per person

The upper Beaverhead River opened today for the general fishing season in Montana. The outflow from Clark Canyon Reservoir is only 114cfs this morning. the wade anglers are thrilled but the drifters will have a hard time below high Bridge. Not much for hatches right now on the Beaverhead. You will do best with sow bugs, scuds, and midge larva. Traffic will be busy there this weekend but should thin out by the week. If you want that tug from a trophy trout head down to the Beaverhead. If you are looking to take your drift boat on the Beaverhead at these low flows you will find it better to drift on the lower stretches.

Currently we are having a flushing flow on the Beaverhead. The prediction is several days with a release of 600cfs out of Clark Canyon Reservoir. So, with this happening the fishing is not an option right now on the Beaverhead. The river is dirty and won't fish well until the flushing flows decrease. We will keep you updated when the fishing improves. The reason they are flushing the Beaverhead is to remove the silt build up below Clark Canyon Creek.

Happy new year to everyone and we are glad to get out our first Beaverhead River fishing report of the season. It's pretty quiet in Southwest Montana and we are enjoying a great valley snowpack and a slightly above average snowpack for the Jefferson drainage, which includes the Beaverhead River valley. Currently Clark Canyon Reservoir is 50% full so an above average snowpack will increase the chances of the reservoir filling up this spring. The Beaverhead is a good place to get some winter fishing done. You have options of Poindexter Slough and everything below Pipe Organ Bridge is open to fishing right now on the Beaverhead. It's been a pretty chilly winter in Southwest Montana. We have seen only a handful of days reaching above 32 degrees in the valley. We will keep you posted throughout the winter season.
